Children and Tampons

will tampons affect my daughter’s virginity?

Virginity has to do with sexual relations...not using tampons or doing splits. Many young girls start using tampons early on because they are swimmers or athletes. The hymen, which partially covers and protects the opening to the vagina, is so fragile that it is stretched or torn during many activities. There is no reason why your daughter couldn’t use a tampon if she can read and understand the instructions for insertion and safe use. The decision is yours and hers

when can a girl start using tampons?

It is suggested, you start them with Ultrathin Sanitary Pads. After a few cycles they may be ready for tampons, but this is an individual decision. They must be able to understand the proper use of tampons and be able to insert the tampon into their vaginas. Then we suggest you to start using the Lowest Absorbency tampons.

do tampons hurt?

No. When you begin to menstruate, you are old enough to use tampons and can use them right from the start. Tampons are inserted into the vagina through the same opening from which menstrual fluid leaves your body. This opening, in all but the very unusual situations, is large enough to accommodate a tampon. By carefully and completely following the Tampon Insertion instructions given inside the packaging, you will find that the use of tampons is really quite easy. The package Leaflet shows several positions that can be used to comfortably insert a tampon. While learning, it is helpful to relax, take your time, and be patient. Some beginners have to try several times before they are able to insert a tampon. If you have difficulty, you may find using a small amount of lubricating jelly (not petroleum jelly) on and around the tip of the tampon and the outer tube will help to simplify insertion. When the tampon has been inserted correctly, you should not feel any discomfort.

my 10-year-old gets stomach aches. is it puberty?

Has your daughter been developing any signs of puberty, such as breast development, underarm hair, hair in her pubic area, and a white vaginal discharge? Has she grown quickly, adding weight? These are predictors, much more powerful than stomach cramps. You can take her for an exam with her doctor for a more expert opinion.

talking about sex

Why not start talking with her now? Let her know that she will be getting information in school, but you would like to go over it with her first. Then, after she has the class in school, review the material with her. This should open up the lines of communication so that she will share other issues with you as well.

exercise and cramps

Moderate Exercise will help with Menstrual Cramps. Your Daughter’s flow may not be affected but the exercise, so she should use a Super Tampon (for Heavy Flow) and a Sanitary Pad as a backup.

how to tell if you’ve ovulated

Do not think of your period as once a month event. Think of it as a cycle that occurs every 21, 26, 28, 32 days, you fill in the number of days your cycle lasts. So if your cycle is less than 30 or 31 days you are bound to get two periods in one calendar month. For example, if your period is on a 26 day cycle, you could get your period on May 1 and then again on May 27. If your cycle is shorter, it is even more likely that two periods may come in one month. Usually you ovulate 14 days before your period starts.

start of menopause?

For many years before you actually go through menopause, you are in pre-menopause. This time is characterized by menstrual irregularities, hot flashes, night sweats, itchy skin, dry vagina, etc. It is certainly possible…., even probable, given your family history that you are in this early stage of menopause (menopause is the last menstrual period and is only that occurrence). Make an appointment with your gynecologist and discuss menopause with him/her.
